Orton Effect

Another post processing technique which I use quite a bit is called the “Orton Effect”. I just love the “dreamy” effect that comes from applying differing amounts of Gaussian blur to an image. If applied correctly, it can render that “glamour” look that one sees on so many fashion magazines. I use this treatment sparingly on most of my portrait shots.

“Orton imagery, also called an Orton slide sandwich, is a photography technique which blends two completely different photos of the same scene, resulting in a distinctive mix of high and low detail areas within the same photo. It was originated by photographer Michael Orton.” Wikipedia
